From suppressors to other NFA firearms, our team is here to help make the process as simple and straightforward as possible.
Effective August 13, 2026, a federal court injunction changed the federal NFA process for certain covered suppressor transfers. McCunn Specialty Firearms is currently offering an over-the-counter Form 4473 transfer process for qualifying Iowa residents who meet our requirements below.
This over-the-counter suppressor transfer process through McCunn Specialty Firearms is currently available to Iowa residents only.
You must provide a valid government-issued photo ID showing your current Iowa residential address at the time of transfer.
Not an Iowa resident? Contact our team. We can help explain what purchase or transfer options may be available for your situation.
McCunn Specialty Firearms requires proof of a current Gun Owners of America (GOA) membership for suppressors transferred through this process.
Become a GOA Member →Once you have your membership confirmation, email it to sales@mccunnguns.com with the subject line “GOA Member.”
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID showing your current Iowa residential address. This transfer process through McCunn Specialty Firearms is currently limited to Iowa residents.
You will complete the standard ATF Form 4473 at McCunn Specialty Firearms at the time of transfer.
The required firearm background-check process will be completed before the suppressor is transferred to you.
Your GOA membership, government-issued identification, and ATF Form 4473 must all belong to the same qualifying purchaser. A spouse's membership, trust, or another person's information cannot be used to qualify for this transfer process.
The new suppressor transfer process does not eliminate the traditional NFA process for every item or transaction. When fingerprints, photos, ATF forms, or additional NFA paperwork are still required, our team can help you complete the process right here at McCunn Specialty Firearms.
No need to make a separate appointment somewhere else. When fingerprints are required for your NFA application, we can handle them right here in-house.
When a passport-style photo is required for your NFA submission, we can help take care of that as part of the process.
Our team can help guide you through the paperwork and submission process for traditional NFA applications when a Form 1 or Form 4 is required.
From selecting the right NFA item to paperwork, fingerprints, photos, and submission guidance, our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible.
Not sure which process applies to you? That's exactly what we're here for. Stop in or contact McCunn Specialty Firearms and we'll help determine whether your purchase qualifies for the new suppressor transfer process or requires a traditional NFA application.
