Our story began in 2012 in the heart of Massena, Iowa, when Kevin and Brice McCunn set out to build something meaningful—guided by faith, grounded in family values, and driven by a passion for serving their community.

What started as a small shop quickly grew into a bigger vision: creating a place where people could not only purchase quality products, but feel confident, welcomed, and at home.

That vision came to life in March of 2015 when we opened the doors to our current facility—now a recognized destination in Southwest Iowa—located at the corner of Highways 148 and 92.

Built with purpose and designed to serve, our space includes a fully stocked retail store, a six-lane, 25-yard indoor shooting range, a dedicated classroom, and a dedicated safe showroom—home to Iowa Safe Company—stocked with a large selection of gun safes.

At McCunn Specialty Firearms, we offer a carefully selected range of firearms, ammunition, safes, accessories, and NFA items. We handle the entire NFA process in-house, making it simple and straightforward to purchase suppressors and other regulated items with confidence.

As a family-owned business, customer service isn’t just a priority—it’s the foundation of everything we do. We believe in treating people the right way—with honesty, respect, and care—and our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Today, our facility brings together everything under one roof—including a fully stocked retail showroom, six-lane indoor shooting range, dedicated classroom space, in-house NFA services, and Iowa Safe Company’s safe showroom.

Brice McCunn

Brice McCunn, co-founder of McCunn Specialty Firearms, developed a passion for firearms and the Second Amendment at an early age. In 2012, he and his dad, Kevin, opened a small shop in Massena, Iowa—built on the values of hard work, integrity, and family.

As the business grew, so did the vision—expanding into a full retail store and indoor shooting range in 2015. Brice has always been committed to creating more than just a place to shop, but an environment where customers feel welcomed, respected, and confident.

Customer service remains at the core of everything he does. Today, he continues to lead with that same dedication—serving Southwest Iowa with a focus on responsible firearm ownership, strong community values, and a commitment to excellence.

Chelsea McCunn

Chelsea McCunn plays an integral role in the day-to-day operations and overall vision of McCunn Specialty Firearms. As part of a family-owned business, she is passionate about creating a welcoming environment where every customer feels valued, respected, and genuinely cared for.

After 13 years in education, Chelsea stepped away from the classroom to focus on her family and work alongside her husband in growing the business. As a mother of five, she brings purpose, balance, and heart into everything she does.

Often working behind the scenes, Chelsea oversees marketing, social media, and the many moving parts that keep the business running smoothly. Rooted in faith, family, and hard work, she is dedicated to building something meaningful for both her customers and her community.

Kevin Schlotzhauer

Kevin Schlotzhauer is a valued member of the McCunn Specialty Firearms team, bringing both experience and genuine passion to the floor. His love for shooting and hunting is reflected in his achievement as a two-time McCunn Specialty Firearms Winter League Champion.

With a strong understanding of firearms—especially rimfire options—Kevin works closely with customers to help them find the right fit, whether for competition, hunting, or time at the range.

Known for his approachable, down-to-earth style, Kevin focuses on making customers feel comfortable and confident in their decisions. With him, you can expect straightforward advice, solid experience, and a genuine willingness to help.
